Angelology Flashcards
- Where did angels come from? When were they created? How many were created? Give Biblical support for all your answers.
Before: created before rest of creation
i. “On what were its bases sunk? Or who laid its cornerstone, When the morning stars sang together And all the sons of God shouted for joy?” (Job 38:6-7).
Innumerable:
i. “…Thousands upon thousands were attending Him, And myriads upon myriads were standing before Him; The court sat, And the books were opened” (Dan 7:10).
Nothing: created creatures, from nothing as all others
i. “Praise Him, all His angels; Praise Him, all His hosts! … Let them praise the name of the LORD, For He commanded and they were created” (Ps 148:2,5).
- Should angels be worshipped? Why or why not? Support your answers with biblical support.
a. Created: “For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him” (Col 1:16).
b. Idolatry: “For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen” (Rom 1:22-23).
c. Don’t worship: Then I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, “Do not do that; I am a fellow servant of yours and your brethren who hold the testimony of Jesus; worship God. For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy” (Rev 19:10).
Angel’s Cannot Invite Devotion (created, idolatry, don’t worship angels)
- List five descriptive titles of Satan with Scripture references. (i.e. the evil one, the accuser, etc.).
a. Prince: “in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience” (Eph 2:2).
b. Evil One: “in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one” (Eph 6:16).
c. Tempter: “For this reason, when I could endure it no longer, I also sent to find out about your faith, for fear that the tempter might have tempted you, and our labor would be in vain” (1 Thess 3:5).
d. Father of lies: “You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies” (Jn 8:44).
e. Adversary: “Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour” (1 Pet 5:8).
Satan is the PET For Almighty (prince, evil one, tempter, father of lies, adversary).
- Is Satan as powerful as God? Explain your answer and give Biblical support.
a. Creature: “For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him” (Col 1:16).
b. Limited:
i. …in power: “And the great dragon was thrown down, the serpent of old who is called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him” (Rev. 20:1-3).
ii. …in presence: “Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour” (1 Peter 5:8).
iii. …in knowledge: “Then Satan answered the LORD, “Does Job fear God for nothing?” [does not know the nature of Job’s faith] (Job 1:9).
c. Defeated: “And the devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are also; and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever” (Rev 20:10).
d. Resist-able: “Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you” (James 4:7).
e. Restricted: “So the LORD said to Satan, “Behold, he is in your power, only spare his life” (Job 2:6).
Satan CLD RoaR, but not much more (creature, limited, defeated, resist-able, restricted).
