Explain Michael

He is an archangel in (Jude 9:9). Only he receives this designation. It might indicate having authority over other angels and so constitute a hierarchy. Also “the great prince” in (Daniel 12:1).

Q

What services do the angels do in the lives of believers?

A

Angels are involved in human spiritual growth and our mission of spreading the gospel (Hebrews 1:14). They will, when God desires it, even sometimes rescue us from physical dangers (Acts 12:7; 27:23-24). They rejoice when one sinner repents around the PW and earns the prophesied salvation (Luke 15:10). An angel commissioned Philip to go and meet the Ethiopian eunuch so he could be saved (Acts 8:26). They also are involved in caring for believers when they die (Luke 16:22).

16
Q

How do we know Satan exists?

A

Christ deals directly with him and his demons many times ( Matthew 4:1-11).

17
Q

How do we know that Satan is a person?

A

He is clearly portrayed in Scripture as a person. He is not a pre-scientific explanation for physical infirmity or disease as only some diseases/physical infirmities were thought to be caused by him. He is not merely the evil in culture. He is cunning (Genesis 3:1). He gets angry when foiled (Revelation 12:17). He exerts his will in capturing people (2 Timothy 2:26). These are all functions of a person and God will hold him accountable (Revelation 20:10). He is morally responsible and plays an evil role in cultural and world events (1 John 5:19). Demons also have personalities.

18
Q

List Satan’s many names and what they mean.

A

The devil “slanderer”. Beelzebul “Lord of heaven”. Belial “one who opposes God”. God of this age. Prince of this world. Prince of the power of the air. The evil one. Thief. The tempter, a murderer, the father of lies, and the Great Dragon.

19
Q

What does Satan do epistemically?

A

He blinds people’s minds to the gospel (2 Corinthians 4:4). He deceives the entire world(Revelation 12:9).

20
Q

Why think that demons are fallen angels?

A

Because Satan is a fallen angel and referred to as “the prince of demons”(Mark 3:22). So they are fallen angels and under his command.

21
Q

What are demons in general called in Scripture? Why?

A

“unclean spirits” and “evil spirits”. These ascriptions refer to their moral and spiritual wickedness. Also “principalities and powers”

22
Q

What do demons do?

A

They in habit people and speak through them (Mark 1:34) as well as to inhabit animals (Mark 5:12). They seek to cause disease, though not all diseases are caused by them (Matthew 12:22-24). They desire to deceive Christians (2 Corinthians 11:14) to get them even to worship them (1 Corinthians 10:20) and must be resisted (James 4:7). Their plan is to dethrone God.

23
Q

Are the forces of good and evil fighting an equal playing field?

A

No. The Devil and his demons are completely under God’s control, who is omnipotent. Their end in the lake of fire proves it (Revelation 20:10).

24
Q

How much influence does a demon have over a person who has a demon? Can Christians who possess the Holy Spirit be indwelt by demons?

A

Unknown. According to evangelicals, up for debate.
