What is the difference between a sedative and a tranquilizer?
- Sedative => drug that reduces excitement and irritability by causing sleepiness and decreases mental activity
- Tranquilizer => drug that may reduce anxiety in a patient but does not necessarily reduce awareness
What is Cyclohexamines?
Drugs that interrupt neural transmissions that induce conscious and unconscious brain functions
Side effects of dissociative anesthetics
- Temporary personality changes
- Tissue irritation
- Apneustic breathing pattern
- Increasing in salivation and lacrimation
- Nystagmus
- Dilated pupils
How can we differentiate Isoflurane, Sevoflurane and Desflurane?
- Isoflurane has a purple label
- Sevoflurane has a yellow label
- Desflurane has a blue label
What do feline patients require before the intubation and for what?
2% lidocaine gel or spray to anesthetize the glottis
