therapeutic methods that have been shown to be effective to meet the cultural needs of the
patient.
Indigenous psychotherapy
therapies embedded within a culture and do not include anyone from
outside the culture, carried out by someone who is sanctioned within the community to be a
therapist
Aim
wanted to determine the effect of mindfulness-based meditation therapy on anxiety and
depression in Japanese patients undergoing anti-cancer treatment.
Procedure
The participants participated in two sessions of meditation therapy and were instructed to
practice at home between sessions.
- Participants completed questionnaires before and after the treatment
Results
Show that anxiety and depression levels decreased significantly
* Argue that a sense of spiritual well-being is what resulted in lower levels of both anxiety
and depression
Evaluation
Small sample size and volunteers from a certain group which may not be representative
of entire population
- Study used a pre-test/post-test design giving the participants a test before and after
treatment which allowed for comparison of results to determine how well the results
worked
