Andie State Exam Prep Flashcards

1
Q

The electrical impulses of the heart are represented as PQRST waves. The P wave represents atrial deplorisation them impulse delayed at the AV node.
What does the QRS wave and the T wave represent?

A

QRS represents ventricle deplorisation.

Q

What is angina?

Q

CHF can be represented by systolic failure or diastolic failure. Is systolic failure an issue with contraction or an issue filling the heart?

A

Systolic is an issue with contraction - meaning it will not be able to exert enough blood out of the ventricles.
Diastolic failure is where there is not enough blood flow into the heart.

Q

What is left sided heart failure?

A

The left ventricle of the heart is no longer able to pump enough blood around the body. This results in a build up in the pulmonary veins.

Q

What are some symptoms of left sided heart failure?

A

Due to the build up of fluid in the pulmonary veins, it will cause SOB, trouble breathing or coughing, increased HR and weight gain - can feel like you are drowning.

Q

What is right sided heart failure?

A

Where the ventricles are too weak to pump enough fluid around the body, it will cause fluid to back up into the body.

Q

True or false. A myocardial infarction occurs when blood flow decreases or stops in one or more of the coronary arteries - this will cause damage to the heart.

Q

What are the differences between stable and unstable angina?

A

Stable - usually caused on exertion and only lasts 5-15mins.
Unstable - no trigger and may occur when resting - lasting longer than 10mins and not relieved by GNT.

17
Q

Is stable or unstable angina more likely to cause a heart attack?

A

Unstable angina.

18
Q

An exercise tolerance test may be used as a diagnostic test for what type of disease?

A

Angina.

19
Q

What is some treatment methods for angina?

A

Smoking cessation
controlling hypertension
lowering blood cholesterol
exercise program
Glyceryl trinitrate

20
Q

What is a DVT?

A

Deep vein thrombosis - formation of clot within a deep vein.

21
Q

What are the symptoms of a DVT?

A

redness, swelling, very warm to touch - painful.

22
Q

Should you massage the area where there is a DVT?

A

NO - massage could dislodge the and it can move around within the body.

23
Q

What is a preventative tool utalised when someone may be at increased risk of DVT?

A

TED - socks.
