Map Legend
A key to symbolism used on a map and can also include units of distance.
Physical Map
A visual representation of an area highlighting relationships between elements of that space including objects, regions and rivers.
Latitude
The angular distance of a place North or South of the Earth’s equator- expressed in degrees.
Longitude
The angular distance of a place West or East of the Prime Meridian (centered in Greenwich, England)- expressed in degrees.
Country
A nation with its own government occupying a particular territory.
Continent
Any of the world’s main continuous expanses of land (Africa, North and South America, Antarctica, Australia, Europe and Asia).
Urban
Characteristic of a city (or a large town, but more so of the former).
Rural
Referring more to the countryside as opposed to towns and cities.
Political
Relating to the government or the public affairs of a nation, extending to the military.
Social
Relating to or characteristic of society and or its organization- How people live in their society.
Economic
Of or relating to the wealth and resources of a country or region, includes GDP as well as international imports and exports. Trade is a huge part of economic health.
