Q

Retell the plot of the Osirin myth

A

Ra curses Nut for being pregnant with 3 different men’s children. He curses Nut so she will never give birth to her children and stay pregnant for ever. Thoth talks to the moon and convinces him to give them enough light to have each of the children. She gives birth to the children. Osiris is the king. Set is jealous and makes a box, tricks Osiris to go in it, trapped him in, and threw it in the river. Isis, Osiris’ wife, goes to find Osiris. The box is lodged in a tree which has been cut down to build a palace for a far away king. With the queens permission she removed the box from the tree it was lodged in. She buries her dead husband. She gives birth to his son, Horus. Her father Thoth tells her to hide her son from Set. Set found Osiris’ body and tore it up in 14 pieces. Isis found all of the pieces of his body and wrapped them together in cloth and brought Osiris back to life. Osiris became the god of the underworld. Horus went to avenge his fathers death. He took Set captive. Isis felt bad and told Horus to stop. Horus cuts off his mothers head. Thoth replaced her head with the head of a cow.
