- this is in China.

-A succession of from the same family; the period of time during which they reigned.

Shang
- The earliest Chinese Dynasty
- lasted from 1650-1027 B.C.E
Loess
- very fine wind-blown silt
- In North China, loess is yellow in color.
- Loess was deposited by glaciers during the last ice age.
Confucianism
- The system of ethics, education, statesmanship
- more taught by confucius and his disciples.
Tang
- The empire ruled during China’s Golden Age.
- Ran from 618-907 by Li Huan or Gaozong.
Artisan
-Someone who makes things.
Taoism
- was based on the teachings of laozi
- the basic goal was to live in harmony with nature
Song Dynasty
- from 907 - 1276 CE;
- a period of great growth in China
- when many inventions were created.
silk
- Cloth spun from fibers
- made by silkworms.
- People have eagerly purchased this delicate fabric for thousands of years.
Legalism
- Another philosophy developed around the same time as Confucianism.
- Conuciansim, based on idea that society operates better under a structure of law and government rather than moral laws.
Ming
- The Ming dynasty from 1368 to 1644 CE.
- The Ming had fallen to a shortage of commercial access and constant attacks from Japanese pirates. Ming translates to “brilliant” in Chinese.
Bureaucrats
-Workers in various departments of government.
Karst
- landscape that is underlined by limestone or other carbonate rock,
- usually subject to erosion, sinkholes or other distinguishable land forms
Mongols
- A cultural group who were the rulers of Yuan Dynasty.
- They primarily lived in Mongolia.
