Waves
What are the two main parts of an anchor?
Anchor and rode which connects it to the boat.
What are the three strains on an anchor?
Waves, water, wind
What does and anchor’s holding power depend on?
Design and weight, ability to dig in, angle of attack, type of bottom.
What is the purpose of the chain?
To hold the rode down on the bottom, saves nylon rope from wear and tear, adds to the cushioning action of the rode due to its weight.
What is a rode
line and/or chain attaching the anchor to the boat.
What is a kellet?
A heavy weight attached in the length of the anchor rode to reduce the angle of pul at the anchor.
What is a sentinel?

What is a fluke?
The point of and anchor that catches the ground.
What is a disadvantage of an all-chain anchor line?
Does not stretch like nylon.
What is an advantage of an all chain anchor line?
More weight.
What is the most effective angle of attack for and anchor? Why?
At a low angle of attack (being pulled parallel to the bottom. Because it is being dragged along the bottom, not up.
What is scope?
The ratio of length of rode to the vertical distance form the bottom of the gunwale chock.
What is the best nylon to chain ratio?
5:1, 7:1
What should you remember when stowing an anchor?
Readily available, secured, ventilation, bitter end secured.
