Anatomy Unit 4 Flashcards
(24 cards)
What are the brain meninges
Dura Mater (Deep), Arachnoid Mater, Pia Mater (Superficial)
What is the Falx cerebri?
Dura mater, separates left and right hemisphere
What is Tentorium Cerebelli?
Seperates cerebrum from cerebellum
What is Falx cerebelli?
Separates cerebellum: left and right side
What are ventricles?
Cavities, all connected together, contain CSF fluid
What are the functions of CSF?
buoyancy and protection, waste product removal
What is the Choroid Plexus?
tissues, capillaries, pia mater, ependymal cells
Where is the Choroid Plexus located?
in lateral ventricles
Does the Choroid Plexus produce CSF?
Yes
what is the blood brain barrier?
protect brain from pathogens, selectively permeable
What is the central sulcus?
separates frontal lobe from parietal lobe
What is the Transverse Cerebral fissure?
Separates cerebrum from cerebellum
What is the longitudinal fissure?
separates cerebrum into right and left hemisphere
What is the cerebral cortex?
outer most covering of the brain
What does the frontal lobe do?
Movement (motor function), judgement, impulse control
What does the parietal lobe do?
sensory processes
What does the temporal lobe do?
Hearing, language, emotion
What does the occipital lobe do?
vision
What are the three functional areas of the cerebral cortex?
Motor, Sensory, assosciation
What does the Motor area do?
Control voluntary movement (primary, premotor, broca’s area)
what does the primary motor cortex do?
allows conscious control of precise, skilled, voluntary movement
What does the the pre motor cortex do?
controls learned, repetitious, patterned motor skills
What does the Broca’s area do?
present in left hemisphere, motor speech area that directs muscles of tongue
