It can be identified externally by the sternal angle (angle of Louis)
What does the trans-thoracic plane separate?
The superior and inferior mediastinum
Which structures are found in both the superior and inferior mediastinum?
Thymus

Which structures are found in the inferior mediastinum?
Heart
What are the major structures of the superior mediastinum arranged from anterior to posterior?
Thymus Large veins Large arteries Trachea (the trachea bifurcates at the level of the sternal angle) Oesophagus & thoracic duct
