Sagittal Plane
a vertical plane that divides the body down the midline to create a left and right side

On both sides of the body
Coronal Plane or Frontal Plane
a vertical plane that divides the body in half into front and back sections (anterior/ventral and posterior/dorsal)

pertaining to front/abdomen
dorsal
pertaining to back/dorsum
traverse plane
a horizontal plane that divides the body into superior and inferior halves
cephalad
toward the head
caudad
toward the tailbone
external
pertaining to the outside
internal
pertaining to the inside
cranial cavity
cavity that contains the brain, cranial nerves, and related structures
spinal cavity
cavity that contains spinal cord, spinal nerves, and related structure; it is surrounded by the spinal bones and travels down the midline of the back
thoracic cavity
surrounded by the sternum(breastbone) anteriorly, ribs bilaterally, and backbone posteriorly, diaphragm inferiorly. contains the heart, lungs and other structures
abdominal cavity
surrounded by the diaphragm superiorly, abdominal wall anteriorly and backbone posteriorly. contains the stomach, intestines, spleen, liver, kidneys, pancreas, and gallbladder.
pelvic cavity
continuation of the abdominal cavity, surrounded by the pelvic bones anteriorly and bilaterally and backbone posteriorly. contains the large intestine, uterus, bladder, genitalia, and other structures.

combination of the abdominal cavity and pelvic cavity
