Anatomy review Flashcards
What is shown in the image?
Fossa ovale - remnant of foramen ovale
What are the two types of myocytes?
Conduction/ contraction
Myocytes can perform both functions but tend to favour one/ other
Most myocytes are contractile
Where does the SAN lie?
Between superior vena cava and right atrium
Spontaneously depolarises at a quicker rate than other cardiac cells and acts as the pacemaker of the heart
At what level does the inferior vena cava pass through the diaphragm?
T8
Via the vena caval foramen
The phrenic nerve can also be found running through this foramen
*Image shows inferior vena cava entering right atrium
What is shown in the image?
Right atrial appendage
What is shown in the image?
Opening for coronary sinus - the route by which blood from the coronary vasculature re-enters the heart
What is shown in the image?
Pulmonary veins - oxygenated blood from the lungs to the left atrium
Blood supply to the papillary muscles of the bicuspid/ mitral valve
Antero-lateral muscle = LAD + circumflex
Posteromedial muscle = RCA only
The posteromedial papillary muscle is more likely to rupture following infarction because is is only supplied by the RCA
