Anatomy Pre Test Flashcards
Three bones that make up the hard palate of the mouth
Premaxilla
Maxilla
Palatine bone
The midline protrusion at the most posterior aspect of the hard palate
Posterior nasal spine
Muscle for elevation of soft palate
Levator veli palatini
Muscle for lowering the soft palate
Palatoglossus
Palatopharyngeus
Intrinsic muscle of the soft palate at midline in posterior aspect of soft palate
Muscular uvulae
3 muscles that encircle the pharynx and contract to squeeze pharynx
Constrictors
Which two cranial nerves are responsible for velopharyngeal function
9 and 10
Glossopharyngeal
Vagus
Tube connecting middle ear to pharynx
Eustachian tube
Muscle for opening Eustachian tube
Tensor veli palatini
Upper jaw
Maxilla
Lower jaw
Mandible
Horizontal parts of the lower jaw bone
The body
Vertical aspects of lower jaw bone
Ramus
Anterior process of u shape is
Coronoid process
Posterior process of lower jaw bone
Condyle
Bone that comprises the cheek bone and lateral wall of the orbit
Zygoma
Bone that makes up division of two sides of nose
Vomer
The bone that makes up most of forehead
Frontal
Large bone that makes up side of the skull
Parietal
Smaller bone making up side of the skull, with ear canal
Temporal
The bone making up most of the back of the skull
Occipital
Midline cranial suture that extends down the forehead
Metopic
Midline cranial suture that runs from front to back of the top of the skull
Sagittal
The paired cranial suture that runs midline down temples of the skull
Coronal
Paired cranial suture that runs down posterior sides of skull
Lambdoid
Three bones of middle ear
Incus
Malleus
Stapes
Bony protrusion at front of the first crevice vertebrae
Anterior tubercle
Structure connecting tongue to floor of mouth
Lingual Frenulum
Structure connecting upper lip to upper jaw
Labial frenulum
Structure that separates middle ear from ear canal
Tympanic membrane
Section of hard palate which teeth are seated
Alveolus
Top from two teeth
Central incisors
Two teeth next to central incisors
Lateral incisors
Permanent dentition two teeth next to lateral incisors
Canines
How many sets of molars are in permanent dentition
3
muscle that raises velum up and back to pharynx wall
Levator veli palatini
contracts to shape dorsal surface of soft palate and velar extension
during speech
Musculus uvula
3 constrictors
Superior
Middle
Inferior
VP movement
Coronal
Sagittal
Circular
Circular with passavant’s ridge
Velopharyngeal port/opening is the
space when the VP is open
A three year old with repaired cleft palate and unintelligible speech presents with his mother
to cleft team. Mother is anxious for more surgery to the palate. The local SLP report indicates
that the child uses only nasal consonants, glottal stops, and nasal fricatives. Is it time for
more surgery for the velopharynx?
We don’t know because we do not know if child can close VP
