What is the anatomical position?
The universal scientific way to view the human body anatomically for reference.
What are the anatomical planes of the body?
Sagittal, Coronal, Horizontal/Transverse (Oblique additionally)
Demonstrate the anatomical planes.
Sagittal (Body in left and right half)
Coronal (Body into back and front)
Horizontal/Transverse (Body into top and bottom halves)
What is Bilateral?
Both sides of the body.
What is Unilateral?
One side of the body.
What is Ipsilateral?
On the same side of the body.
What is Contralateral?
Opposing structures on the opposite side of the body.
What is Anterior?
Front of the body.
What is Posterior?
Back of the body.
What is Medial?
Middle of the body.
What is lateral?
The side or to the side of the body.
What is superior?
Towards surface or the top of the head.
What is inferior?
Below or closer to the feet.
What is Proximal?
Towards the point of origin.
What is Distal?
Towards the point of insertion.
What is superficial?
Towards the surface of the body.
What is intermediate?
Between two structures.
What is deep?
Deeper and closer to bones and organs. Further from the surface of the body?
