Anatomy & Physiology Flashcards
What sound does systole make?
Lub
What happens during diastole? Is the heart contracting or relaxing?
The chambers fill with blood; relaxing
Pericardium
fibrous sac that encloses the heart
Myocardium
muscular portion of the heart
Endocardium
lines the cardiac chambers and covers the surface of the heart valves
Left Ventricle
brings oxygenated blood to the body
Right Ventricle
brings deoxygenated blood to the body
Tricuspid valve is located on which side of the heart?
Right side. “Tiny right”
Mitral valve is located on which side of the heart?
Left side. “Mighty mitral”
What is the SA node called?
Pacemaker
What is the function of the heart?
Transports blood that contains oxygen, carbon dioxide, nutrients, and waste products
What happens during systole? Is the heart contracting or relaxing?
Ventricles eject blood; contracting
What happens during diastole? Is the heart contracting or relaxing?
The chambers fill with blood; relaxing
What sound does diastole make?
Dub
The aorta pumps blood through the left and right coronary arteries to what part of the heart?
Myocardium
How does the blood flow through the heart? (start with deoxygenated blood)
deoxygenated blood enters the superior and inferior vena cava, into the right atrium, passes through the tricuspid, into the right ventricle, goes through the pulmonary arteries, enters the lungs, becomes oxygenated blood, travels through the pulmonary veins, into the left atrium, goes through the mitral valve, into the left ventricle, and out through the aorta, to the body, and comes back deoxygenated
What delivers oxygenated blood to tissues?
arteries and arterioles
