Anatomy+physio Flashcards
Elements in the body:
- Ca: Calcium
- H: Hydrogen
- Fe: Iron
- Mg: Magnesium
- O/O2: Oxygen
- K: Potassium
- Na: Sodium

Mitochondria of the cell:
Is considered the powerhouse of the cell, responsible for the production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), a form of cellular energy.

Tissues result from grouping of specialized cells that share the same function and purpose. What are the four types of tissue in the Human body?
- Epithelial
- Muscle
- Connective
- Nerve tissue.
(504)
Epithelial tissue It’s found on the outer layer of skin, covering the surface organs, and lining the walls of body cavities. It also forms ducts, tubes, and parts of certain glands. What are the 4 functions of this tissue?
• Absorption, Secretion, Excretion,
and Protection.
(504)
Connective tissue Is most abundant, can be liquid or gel like and fill spaces between cells. Assortment of functions including Forming a support network for organs of the body, covering muscles, and connecting muscles to bones and bones to joints. What kind of form of connective tissue is bone and blood?
Bone is And extremely dense form of connective tissue. Blood is a loose (liquid) type of connective tissue.
(506)
What are the three types of muscle tissue and what do they do?
- Voluntary/Striated Muscle tissue forms voluntary muscles such as skeletal muscle, is striated/striped in appearance and is controlled by a person’s will. Exp biceps
- Involuntary/Smooth Muscle tissue is controlled by the autonomic nervous system. Also known as Visceral muscle tissue, as it lines the walls of hollow organs such as the stomach. A person does not control movement of involuntary muscles. Exp muscles that blink the eye.
- Cardiac Muscle tissue, forms the heart muscles, specialized form of striated muscle & is under control of autonomic nervous system/involuntary.
(506)
•The body’s fluids, including blood, plasma, and interstitial fluid (Fluid between cells), Contain high concentrations of the electrolyte ____.
-What other Electrolytes are found in the human body?
• Sodium chloride (NaCl)
- Sodium (Na+), Potassium (K+), Chloride (Cl), Calcium (Ca), Magnesium (Mg), Bicarbonate (HCO3), Phosphate (PO4), and sulfate (SO4).

Nerve tissue Composed of neurons/nerve cells, acts as the functional unit of the nervous system. What are the two properties of nerve tissue?
Excitability and Conductivity.
(Nerve cells are active=excitability, Nerve cells transmit impulses and coordinate activities in the body=conductivity)
