Anatomy Overview 1 Flashcards
What is this muscle?
Iliacus
What is this muscle?
Psoas Major
What is this muscle?
Psoas minor
What is the linea alba?
It is a fibrous structure that runs down the midline of the abdomen, it recieves the attachments of the oblique and transverse abdominal muslces.
What are the layers present from skin to parietal peritoneal pleura?
Skin
Superficial fascia (fatty, also known as camper’s fascia)
Superficial fascia (membranous, also known as Scarpa’s fascia)
External oblique muscles
Internal oblique muscles
Transversus abdominis muscle
Transversalis fascia
Extraperitoneal fascia
Parietal peritoneum
Define mesentry
A fold in the peritoneum which connects an organ to the posterior wall of the abdomen
Define retroperitoneum?
The space between the peritoneum and the posterior abdominal wall that contains especially the kidneys and associated structures, the pancreas, and part of the aorta and inferior vena cava.
What is an omentum?
A fold of peritoneum connecting the stomach with other abdominal organs.
What are the two omenta and what do they connect?
The greater omentum is a prominent peritoneal fold that hangs down from the greater curvature of the stomach anterior to the transverse colon, to which it is attached.
The lesser omentum attaches the lesser curvature of the stomach to the liver superiorly.
What travels between folds of the peritoneum?
Arteries, therefore, and arterial branch supplying an organ with a mesentery, will travel between the folds of that mesentery.
Is the peritoneal sac closed in men and women?
Men, yes
Women, no. There are two openings where the uterine tubes provide a passage to the outside.
Label the picture of the large intestine
A - Cecum
B - Ascending colon
C - Right colic flexure
D - Transverse colon
E - Left colic flexure
F - Descending colon
G - Sigmoid colon
What is the duodenum?
The duodenum is the first and shortest segment of the small intestine. It receives partially digested food (known as chyme) from the stomach and plays a vital role in the chemical digestion of chyme in preparation for absorption in the small intestine.
What is the jejunum?
The part of the small intestine between the duodenum and ileum
What is the ileum?
The final part of the small intestine, it extends from the jejunum to the ileocecal valve, which empties into the colon (large intestine).
