Anatomy of the Pancreas, Gallbladder and Spleen Flashcards
What is the order of the biliary tree (from start to. finish)?
1) Right and Left hepatic ducts
2) Common hepatic duct (Cystic duct then joins with it)
3) Common bile duct ( Pancreatic duct then joins with it)
4) Duodenum
How long is the bile duct?
7cm
Which sphincter allows the bile duct, which has pancreatic duct joined into it, to enter the duodenum?
Sphincter of Oddi
What is the anterior and posterior border of the gallbladder?
Anterior = Inferior liver Posterior = Duodenum
What is the length of the gallbladder?
10cm
What are the 3 divisions of the gallbladder?
- Fundus (base)
- Body (middle)
- Neck (top)
What are the functions of the gallbladder?
- To concentrate and store bile
- To selectively absorb bile salts
- To excrete cholesterol
- To excrete mucus.
What are the 3 divisions of the pancreas?
- Head
- Body
- Tail
What is the length of the pancreas?
12-15cm
Where is the head of the pancreas located?
At the level of the descending duodenum.
Describe the location of the body and tail of the pancreas.
The body is behind the stomach, with the tail extending towards the spleen.
Where do the exocrine secretions of the pancreas go?
The exocrine secretions first get collected into small ducts.
These small ducts then combine to form the pancreatic duct, which then joins the common bile duct.
The unison of the two bile ducts forms the hepatopancreatic ampulla, which then enters the duodenum 10cm after the pyloric sphincter.
What is another name for the pancreatic duct?
Duct of Wirsung
Where does the duct of Santorini enter the duodenum?
2cm above the hepatopancreatic ampulla.
What is the nervous supply of the pancreas?
- Coeliac ganglia
- Vagus nerve
