Anatomy of the Nervous System Flashcards
Function of the brain :
Control thoughts, memory, emotion, touch, vision, breathing (every process that regulates our body)
Function of the spinal cord :
A pathway for messages sent by the brain to the body and from the body to the brain
Function of spinal nerves (31 pairs) :
To send electrical signals between your brain, spinal cord, and the rest of your body
Function of cranial nerves (I-XII) :
To send electrical signals between your brain, face, neck, and torso
Function of autonomic nervous system (ANS) :
Regulates involuntary processes including heart-rate, blood pressure, respiration, digestion, and sexual arousal
Function of sympathetic (division of ANS) :
Increases the heart rate and the force of heart contractions and bigger airways for more air (Fight or Flight)
Function of parasympathetic (division of ANS) :
Relaxes your body after periods of stress or danger (Rest and Digest)
Function of somatic nervous system :
Connects the CNS with organs and muscles to perform daily activities
