Anatomy of the eye Flashcards
What are the accessory structures of the eye?
Eyebrows, eyelashes, eyelids, extrinsic eye muscles and lacrimal apparatus.
The fibrous tunic is the outer layer of the eye. It is made up of 2 things. What are they?
The Sclera and Cornea.
The Vascular tunic is the middle layer of the eyeball. It is made up of 3 things. What are they?
Choroid, iris and ciliary body
The sensory tunic is the inner layer of the eye. It is made up of 2 things. What are they?
Retina and Vitreous humor.
What is the sclera?
The white of the eye. It is a strong tissue that wraps around your eyeball.
What is the cornea?
The clear outer layer at the front of the eye.
What is the choroid?
Dark pigmented membrane which is important for preventing scattering of light by absorbing because it contains a lot of melanin.
What is the retina?
The retina is the light-sensitive layer of tissue at the back of the eyeball.
what is the vitreous humor?
The vitreous humor is the clear gel that fills the space between the lens and the retina of the eyeball.
What are the 3 layers of the sclera?
- Episclera - Dense fibrous connective tissue.
- sclera proper - collagen fibres
- lamina fusca - pigmented.
