Anatomy of the Digestive System Misc. Flashcards
List the parts of the alimentary canal (7)
oral cavity, pharynx, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, anal canal
name the four layers of the alimentary canal in order from most internal to most external
mucosa, submucosa, muscularis externa, and serosa/adventitia
name the three sublayers to the mucosa
epithelium, lamina propria, muscularis mucosa
which sections of the alimentary canal contain simple columnar epithelium?
most of the canal; stomach, small and large intestines
which sections of the alimentary canal contain stratified squamous epithelium?
oral cavity, esophagus and anus
which sublayer of the mucosa contains MALT and glands?
lamina propria
what are the two layers of the muscularis externa and what is their function?
sphincter (circular) for segmentation and longitudinal for peristalsis
What three arteries supply blood to the digestive organs?
Celiac Trunk, Superior Messenteric Artery, Inferior Mesenteric Artery
Where do the three branches of the celiac trunk supply blood to?
1=left gastric artery to stomach
3=splenic artery to the spleen
8=common hepatic artery to the liver, gallbladder and duodenum
where does the superior mesenteric artery supply blood to?
entire small intestine and proximal 2/3 of the large intestine
where does the inferior emsenteric artery supply blood to?
distal 1/3 of the large intestine
what does the parasympathetic branch of the ANS do to control digestion?
vagus nerve (CN X) controls the first 1/3 of the large intestine and the pelvic spanchnic nerves (S2,3,4) control the distal 2/3 of the large intestine
what does the sympathetic branch of the ANS do to control digestion?
mainly to the blood vascular system
