Anatomy of the Brain Flashcards
What are the lobes of the brain and their primary function?
Frontal - movement, associated with reasoning, planning, motor aspects of speech
Parietal - perception of sensory stimuli, orientation and recognition
Occipital - visual processing
Temporal - perception and recognition of auditory stimuli, memory (long term) and receptive language
Where is the primary motor cortex located?
In front of the central sulcus
Where is the supplementary motor cortex located?
In front of the primary motor cortex
Where is the pre motor cortex located?
Next to the supplementary motor cortex
Where is the Broca’s area?
In the frontal lobe
Where is the primary sensory cortex located?
The frontal most portion of the parietal lobe
Where is wernicke’s area located?
In the temporal lobe, on the left side.
Describe the process of playing a tennis shot
1 - pre frontal area decides what shot should be played and how to move
2 - pre motor cortex plans the movement for trunk and girdles, responds to external stimuli i.e seeing the ball
3 - supplementary motor cortex organises sequence of muscle movements
4 - primary motor cortex generates the voluntary movement
What cells produce myelin in the CNS and PNS?
PNS - schwann cells
CNS - oligodendrocytes
