Anatomy of Respiratory system Flashcards

1
Q

What are the muscles of Inspiration?

A

Diaphragm and external intercostals. When the diaphragm contracts, chest expands downward and elevates lower ribs. When intercostals contract the ribs are elevated and A-P diameter of chest increases.

Q

What are the muscles of Exhalation?

A

Exhalation results from passive recoil of the lungs and rib cage. Forced expiration requires the RA, external oblique, internal oblique, and TA to depress the lower ribs.
