Pouch of Douglas
Lowest point in a female when she’s sitting up or standing
Where fluid would accumulate
Can look with ultrasound to check for fluid
What is the cervix?
Inferior 1/3 of uterus
What is the broad ligament?
It’s the sheet of peritoneum that drapes over the reproductive organs in the female
Includes: mesosalpinx, mesovarium, mesometrium
What is the round ligament?
Structural integrity and support
Uterine body through inguinal canal and onto labia majora
Analogous to spermatic cord
Ligament of the ovary
Tethers ovary to body of uterus
Suspensory ligament of the ovary
Ovarian artery and vein covered in broad ligament
Don’t cut in surgery!
Origin for ovarian artery?
Abdominal aorta
Uterine artery blood supply?
Internal iliac
What is in the deep perineal pouch
Urethral sphincter
Deep transverse perineal
Bulbourethral glands (in men)
