sagittal plane
split into left and right, can be through the midline or may not be

split into top and bottom half
Superior and inferior/ rostral and caudal
above and below
Anterior and posterior/ ventral and dorsal

Superficial and deep-
close to skin and far from skin
Medial and lateral
close to midline of body and further from midline
Proximal and distal
close to limb attachment/ midpoint of trunk and further
Flexion
movement that decreases arm and leg angle (for arm it would be bringing it forward but for leg it would be bringing it back)
extension
movement that increases arm and leg angle
abduction
at shoulder and hip, moves limb away from body
adduction
moves limb closer to body
circumduction
producing spinning movement at ball and socket joints that are highly mobile (shoulder and hip)
rotation
turns body away or towards midline, occurs at neck, shoulder, hip and knee
lateral rotation
away from midline
