Anatomy and Physiology of the Blood System Flashcards
What are Red Blood Cells (RBC)
Most numerous of all the cells in our body
What are WBC’s?
Can leave the blood steam & check all areas of our body; 90% found outside of blood vessels
What are Platelets
Prevent bleeding too much
What is Plasma
Yellowish liquid blood cells float; 90% water,; Other 10% proteins, nutrients, & waste products
What are the Proteins in our plasma?
Albumin & Fibrinogen
Define Albimin
Protein made in our liver which helps to keep our blood in the blood vessels instead of leaking out into the tissues
Define Fibrinogen
Helps to form blood clots & any bleeding
Basic facts about blood…
Makes up about 8% of our body weight;
Men about 5-6 liters (1-1.5 gallons) pf blood
Women about 4-5 liters
Blood low & high in oxygen
Low= Dark red High= bright red
HCT
A test which measure the proportion of our RBC to the rest of our blood.
Normal Hemotocrit Value
45%
Men 47%
Women 42%
Centrifuge Machine
Blood will separate into its components
RBC
Are heaviest, makes up about 45% pf sample (bottom)
Plasma
the lightest; makes up about 55% of sample
Buffy coat
Thin white layer between; made of WBC & platelets
