Anatomy and Physiology for Jocks Flashcards
What are the 4 Body parts we ask our athletes to learn?
Spine
Pelvis
Femur
Tibia
What are the 3 joints we ask our athletes to learn?
Sacroiliac joint (bottom of spine) Hip joint Knee joint
What makes up the “leg?”
Femur and tibia
What makes up the trunk?
Pelvis and spine
Describe “flexion” and “extension” in relation to angles of the joint
Flexion is reducing the angle of a joint
Extension is increasing the angle of a joint
What the points of the biomechanic rule involving the Si joint and spine?
- designed for small movement in multiple directions
- keeps trunk tight/ solid for running, jumping, squaring, throwing, etc.
What is the point of the biomechanic rule involving hip extension?
- powerful hip extension is certainly necessary for elite athletic performance
What the points of the biomechanic rule involving muted hip function?
- muted hip = the pelvis chases the femur
- the hip angle remains open, and therefore powerless to extend.
