Anatomy Flashcards
Where does pudendal nerve arise from?
Dorsal nerve roots at S2, S3, and S4
What innervates the striated external sphincter?
Pudendal nerve
Where does the dorsal penile nerve arise from?
Pudendal nerve
What nerve provides somatic sensation to the penis?
Dorsal penile nerve
What nerves are responsible for ejaculation
Sympathetic chain arising from T10-L2
What is the embryologic origin of the kidney
mesoderm
pronephros -> mesonephros -> metanephros
What nerves control cerebral induced erections?
- In response to visual or sensory erotic stimulation to cerebral cortex
- Via central innervation of parasympathetic pathway through S2-S4 nerve routes
- Require intact spinal cord
What are the three phases necessary for ejaculation?
- Emission (sympathetic), results in swelling of bulbar urethra stimulating rhythmic contractions of bulbocavernosus and pelvic floor muscles under somatic control via S2-S4 nerve roots (Onuf’s nucleus) causing 2. closure of bladder neck (sympathetic) and 3. Expulsion
What is emission?
Sympathetic induced contraction of prostatic smooth muscle, SVs and vas deferens allowing pre-ejaculatory fluid to be deposited into prostatic urethra
What are the three branches of the penile artery
Bulbourethral, cavernosal artery, dorsal artery
Where does the penile artery originate
internal pudendal artery
Where does the superficial dorsal vein drain
Left saphenous vein (sometimes right saphenous)
What are the branches of the SMA
middle colic (transverse colon) right colic (right colon) ileocolic (distal ileum
What are the branches of the IMA?
Left colic
sigmoid
superior hemrroidal
Marginal
What is the marginal artery?
The arc that anastamoses the IMA and SMA
Branch of middle colic
