Anatomy Flashcards
Androgen effect on terminal hairs
@ Puberty, increases follicle size in chest/bear/limbs and decreases in bi-temporal region
What two layers surround growing hair shaft
Outer and inner root sheath
What layers make up the hair shaft once it has emerged
Outer cuticle, cortex, and sometimes an inner medulla (all dead protein)
Hair follicles at birth
start with ~ 5 million follicles and get no more after birth (size influenced by androgens)
Three sections in the hair follicle
Infundibulum (surface to the sebaceous gland duct)
Isthmus (sebaceous gland duct to insertion of the erector pili muscle)
Inferior segment which is only present during anagen/growing phase (goes to the base of the matrix)
