Anatomy Flashcards
Blood supply of the spinal cord
3 longitudinal vessels: 2 posterior spinal arteries and 1 anterior spinal artery
Reinforced by segmental feeder arteries
Role of the dorsal columns
- Fine touch
- Vibration
- Proprioception
Decussation point of the dorsal columns
In the medulla forming the medial lemniscus
Role of the spinothalamic tract
Temperature
Pain
Sensation provided by the lateral corticospinal tract
Motor
Cell body of:
a) Dorsal columns
b) Spinothalamic tract
c) Lateral corticospinal tract
a) DRG
b) DRG
c) Primary motor cortex
Ducssation point of the spinothalamic tract
In the cord at the entry level
Decussation point of the lateral corticospinal tract
Pyramids in ventral medulla
Locations of cranial nerve nuclei
Midbrain: 3,4,(5)
Pons: 5,6,7,8
Medulla: (5),9,10,11,12
All innervate ipsilateral side.
Fibres from trochlear nucleus decussate in medulla and supply cotralateral superior oblique muscle
Muscles supplied by:
a) CN3 b) CN 4 c) CN6
a) levator palpebrae superioris, superior rectus, medial rectus, inferior rectus, and inferior oblique muscles
b) Superior oblique
c) Lateral rectus
