anatomy 3 Flashcards
cerebral cortex or cerebral grey matter contains
cell bodies of neurones
grey matter only exists on the
surface of the hemispheres
the hemisphere surface is
highly convoluted, increasing SA -> increased grey matter
the cerebral cortex is the location of higher functions such as:
- intelligence
- personality
- motor function
- planning/organisation
- touch sensation
what is the name of the infoldings of the brain. often used to mark boundary of different functional areas
sulci
what is the same of the sticky out bits of the sulci. areas of grey matter
gyri
label brain with these structures:
frontal lobe
parietal lobe
temporal lobe
occipital lobe
central sulcus
pre-central gyrus-(primary motor cortex)
post-central gyrus- (somatosensory cortex)
lateral fissure
frontal lobe controls
movement, decision making, problem solving and planning
parietal lobe is involved in
receiving/processing sensory info
Occipital lobe is responsible for
visual processing
temporal lobe is involved in
memory, emotion, hearing and language
