Anatomy Flashcards
What does the Circle of Willis look like?
Which artery becomes the posterior cerebral artery?
The basilar artery, which comes from the two vertebral arteries
Where do the pontine arteries arise from?
The basilar artery
What are the three arteries that supply the cerebellum?
Superior Cerebellar artery
Anterior Inferior cerebellar artery
Posterior inferior cerebellar artery
What arteries serve the spinal column?
The one anterior and two posterior spinal arteries.
The posterior serves the dorsal columns (Vibration, proprioreception, soft touch)
The anterior serves corticospinal and spinothalamic (Motor, pain, temperature) and vestibulospinal (Coordination)
What are the layers of brain coverings?
What does the cavernous sinus look like??
OTOMCAT
What does the Anterior cerebral artery serve?
What functions are affected if it is damaged?
The anterior and lateral aspects of the forebrain, particularly the foot and leg motor/sensation
What does the Middle cerebral artery serve?
The lateral aspect of the forebrain, particularly Brocas (speech) and full body motor
What does the posterior cerebral artery serve?
The caudal aspect of the brain, particularly the occiptal cortex
what is the importance of the pontine arteries?
They serve the brain stem so crucial functions such as breathing and HR control
Where do the internal carotids enter the skull?
Carotid canal
Where do the vertebral arteries enter the skull?
Foramen magnum
Where are the labyrinthine arteries and what do they do?
They come off the Anterior inferior cerebellar arteries and serve the ear. Damage would result in hearing loss in that ear
Where are the primary and motor cortexes and what separates them?
Central sulcus
