the soft, elastic, thick inner layer made up of elongated cells that bond together tightly (containing melanin and keratin)

The deepest layer, consisting of round cells

What is Melanin ?
the coloring matter that provides natural color to our hair, skin and eyes. (Located in the cortex layer of the hair)
Produces brown to black pigments in the hair

What pigments do Pheomelanin produce?
yellow to red pigments in the hair

Canities
What is Acquired Canities?
when the melanocytes gradually become inactive (congenital canities can occur before or birth ex. Albinism)
