Anatomy Flashcards
Name the different regions of the spine
Cervical
Thoracic
Lumbar
Sacral
Coccyx
How many vertebra make up the Cervical spine
7
C1-C7
How many vertebra make up the Thoracic spine
12
T1-T12
How many vertebra make up the Lumbar spine
5
L1-L5
How many vertebra make up the sacral spine
5
S1-S5
All semi-fused together
Name the joint between vertebra
A facet joint
Zygoapothoseal joint
What are the spinal meninges
Three layers of fibrous tissue surrounding the spinal cord
Dura matter (tough), arachnoid, Pia matter (delicate)
The meninges are affected when you have meningitis
Name the 6 spinal ligaments
Anterior Longitudinal Ligament
Posterior Longitudinal Ligament
Ligamentum Flavum
Supraspinous Ligament
Interspinous Ligament
Intertransverse Ligament
Anterior Longitudinal Ligament
Covers the length of the anterior vertebral column
Posterior Longitudinal Ligament
Covers the length of the posterior vertebral column
(Not the back of the spine where the facet joints are, sits at the back of the chunky bit between the spinal column and the facet joints)
Ligamentum Flavum
Sits posteriorly to the spinal cord (between the spinal cord and the facet joints)
Supraspinous Ligament
Sits over the spinous processes at the posterior of the spine
Interspinous Ligament
Runs between the spinous processes at the back of the spine
Intertransverse Ligament
Runs between the transverse (sideways) processes of the vertebral column
