Anatomy Flashcards
What is horizontal flexion?
bring arm parallel to the floor & across the front of the body
What is horizontal extension?
arm parallel to the floor & towards the back of the body
What is pronation?
turning the palm back in the forearm & foot
What is supination?
turning the palm to face forward; found in the forearm and foot
Define depression in relation to the shoulders.
shoulder blades down the back body
Define elevation in relation to the shoulders.
shoulder blades pulling up
Define retraction in relation to the shoulders.
shoulder blades pull closer together; towards midline
Define protraction in relation to the shoulders.
shoulder blades pull away from each other
What is a posterior pelvic tilt?
back of the pelvis pulls down; the pelvis is tucked under
What is an anterior pelvic tilt?
hip bones move forward; the pelvis is tilted towards the front of the body
What is dorsal flexion?
flexing the foot; pull toes back towards shin
What is plantar flexion?
pointing the toes
What is lateral flexion?
side bending; curving the spine to create space between the hip & shoulder
Where does pure rotation occur?
only in the spine
Describe lateral rotation.
external rotation; the bone turns along the axis away from midline of the body
