Anatomy Flashcards
What are the two processes of the temporal bone called.
Mastoid and styloid process
What does the mental nerve supply?
sensory innervation to the anterior territory of the buccal mucosa, lower lip, and the skin of the chin ventral to its foramen
Which bones in the cranium have air spaces?
(FEMS)
FRONTAL
ETHMOID
MAXILLA
SPHENOID
What is the pteryion?
Where the frontal, temporal and sphenoid bone come together
It is a thin spot in the skull and there is an artery there - if hit by a ball, can rupture an artery and die :(
What is the inverted v shaped boundary on the tongue called?
Sulcus terminalis
What are the islands of tissue on the anterior part of the tongue called?
Circumvalate papillae
What can happen to some individuals who’s palate doesn’t fuse properly during embryological development?
Can get cleft lip or cleft palate
Where is the greater and lesser palatine foramen?
On the horizontal plate of palatine bone
What are the 4 different bones contributing to the hard palate?
- Palatine process of the maxilla
- Horizontal bone of palatine bone
Where do the muscles of mastication receive their motor supply from?
Facial nerve
What are the divisions of the facial nerve called?
Temporal
Zygomatic
Buccal
Mandibular
Cervical
What is Bell’s palsy?
The facial nerve gets inflamed by a virus and it causes facial paralysis?
What nerve provides sensory innervation to the face?
The Trigeminal Nerve (cranial nerve 5)
What are the 3 divisions of the Trigeminal nerve?
Ophthalmic division nerve
Maxillary division nerve
Mandibular division nerve
V1, V2 and V3
What does the carotid artery branch of into?
Inter and external carotid arteries
What does the external carotid artery supply?
Blood to the teeth (i.e neck and face)
What does the internal carotid artery supply
Brain
Through which vessel does blood travel to supply the lower part of the mouth?
External carotid artery —> Maxillary artery —> Inferior alveolar artery
