Anatomy Flashcards
innervation of nose and nasopharyx primarily from
trigeminal nerve
innervation of oropharynx primarily from
glossopharyngeal
can block through anterior tonsillar pillar.
superior laryngeal nerve (off the vagus) - INTERNAL BRANCH provides sensory function to
hypopharynx and supraglottic larynx
SIME
sensory - internal
motor- external
what’s the only muscle the external branch of the superior laryngeal nerve innervates?
the cricothyroid muscle
adducts the vocal cords (TENSES)
what’s the ONLY laryngeal muscle that causes ABDUCTION of the true vocal cords?
posterior cricoarytenoid muscle (RLN innervation)
what does injury to the SLN look like?
unilateral: not much
b/l: hoarseness, tiring of voice
(remember, it TENSES the VC)
what does injury to the RLN look like?
most commonly during thyroid surgery
unilateral: hoarseness (loss of ABduction)
bilateral: stridor, aphonia, respiratory distress
MC injured nerve in lithotomy
peroneal #2: sciatic
sartorial nerve action
anteriorbrnch of femoral
bend kneeto look at bottom of foot
(will twitch if too superficial and medial for fem nerve block - WANT posterior branch of femoral). go DEEPER and LATERAL
