Describe flex ion
An angular motion
Sagittal plane
Reduced angle between elements
Extension
Angular motion
Sagittal plane
Increased angle between elements
Abduction
Angular motion
Coronal plane
Moved away from longitudinal axis
Adduction
Angular motion
Coronal plane
Moves towards longitudinal axis
Rotation
Movement about the longitudinal axis
Direction of rotation from anatomical position can be left or right
Internal (medial) or external (lateral) I.e move toward or away from body
Circumduction
Combination of flexion/extension and abduction/adduction
It is a circular motion without rotation (outlining circle with arm)
Pronation
Rotates forearm radius over ulna - Palm facing back
Supination
Forearm in anatomical position- Palm facing forward
Dorsiflexion
Foot pointing upwards
Plantar flexion
Foot pointing downwards
Eversion
Side of foot pointing out
Inversion
Side of foot pointing in
Sagittal
Runs from front to back- dividing the body into left and right
Coronal
Runs from left side to right side-splits body into front and back
Tranverse plane
Splits body into top and bottom
