Superior
(above), (cranial meaning closer to the head)
Inferior
(below), (caudal meaning closer to the feet)
Cranial
specifically for humans meaning towards the cranium
Caudal
specifically for humans meaning towards the lower part of a structure or the body
Medial
Towards or at the midline of the body; (on the inner side of)
Lateral
Away from the midline of the body; (on the outer side of)
Proximal
Closer to the origin of the body part or the point of attachment
Distal
Farther from the origin of a body part or the point of attachment
Ipsilateral
On the same side
Right hand and right foot are ipsilateral
Contralateral
On opposite sides
Right hand and left foot are contralateral
Anterior
Towards or at the front of the body
Ventral
Used in humans means the same as anterior (belly-side)
Posterior
Towards or at the back of the body
Dorsal
Used in humans means the same as posterior (backside)
Superficial
Towards or at the body surface
