Deacribe the anatomical position
Standing up straight, facing forward
Feet flat on floor & close together
Hands by side with palms facing forwards
Name 3 anatomical planes
Sagittal
Frontal
Transverse
Superior
Towards the head
Eg. nose is superior to the navel
Inferior
Further from the head
Eg. stomach is inferior to the lungs
Posterior (dorsal)
Towards the back of the body
Eg. the spine is posterior to the sternum
Anterior (ventral)
Towards the front of body
Eg. the nose in anterior to the ears
Medial
Closer to the midline
Eg. the ulna is medial to the radius
Lateral
Further from the midline
Eg. the lungs are lateral to the heart
Proximal
Means nearer to the attachment of a limb to the trunk
Eg. the kneecap is proximal to the ankle
Distal
Means farther awau from the attachment of the limb of the trunk.
Eg. the wrist is distal than the elbow
Superficial
Means towards or on the surface of the body.
Eg. the ribs are superficial to the lungs
Deep
Means away from the surface of the body. Eg. the ribs are deep to the skin of the chest and back
Axial region
Head, neck and trunk
Appendicular region
Upper and lowrr limbs
