Anatomical Positions And Related Body Surfaces Flashcards
Anatomical position
Upright positions, arms abducted ( down), Palms forward, head and feet directed straight ahead, he was together, toes pointed anteriorly with great toes touching
Midline of the body
Imaginary line and what you draw vertical line through the center of the forehead, nose, cheek, chin, chest, abdomen, and between the legs. This divides the body into right and left
Anterior
Front
 posterior
 back
Medial
Near the midline of the body
Lateral
Farthest away from midline of the body
Palmer
Palm of hand
Volmer
Palms of hands and soles of feet
Plantar
Sole of foot
Dorsum
Top of foot
Midsagittal
Planes that divides the body into right and left halves
Sagittal plane
Plane parallel to the mid sagittal
Unequal parts left and right
coronal plane
A plane divides the body into anterior and posterior
Longitudinal plane
Applying cutting lengthwise or the long axis of the body
Transverse or horizontal
Applying cutting crosswise on body or at Right Angles with long access body
Vertical
Same as a longitudinal except these sections to note that they were taken in the anatomical position
Transpyloric
Cutting lengthwise at the level of the pylorus
Oblique
Section are not taken in the main plane of body or any part
Abduction
Move the bone Away from midline
Adduction
Move bone toward midline
 Flexion
Reducing the angle between two bones.
From Resting to 90 degrees
Extension
Increasing the angle between two bones.
From 90 degrees to resting position
Partial flexion
Extremity all together slightly more than 90°
From 90 degrees to 45 degrees
Accute Flexion
Bring extremity together more than 90°
Accrue angle formed on extremities
 inversion
Toes pointed towards the midline
 eversion
Toes pointed away from Midline
 rotation
Rotation or turning the body of axis
Subination
The movement of turning the hand palm upwards
Pronation
Movement of turning the hand palm downwards
 gliding
Moving jaw left to right
Dorsiflexion
Move toes and foot upward
Hyper extension
Bending beyond natural position
Hyperflexion
Extreme flexion
Hypoflexion
Decreasing the angle of Flexion
Internal or medial
Rotation or turning a body part internally Or towards the midline of the body
External or lateral
Rotation of turning the body towards the outside away from Midline
