Anatomical Planes and Axes Flashcards
What are the three planes of motion that pass through the human body?
The sagittal planes, the transverse (horizontal) plane, and the frontal plane.
In anatomical planes left and right is ?
Sagittal Plane
In anatomical planes back and front is ?
Frontal Plane
In anatomical planes top and bottom is?
Transverse Plane
What are the three axes of rotation?
Horizontal axis (left to right), longitudinal axis (head to toe), and anteroposterior axis (front to back)
What is the description of plane?
one parallel to the movement
What is the description of axis?
perpendicular to the movement of plane
What movement is allowed in frontal plane?
Side to side movement ( Abduction and Adduction).
Examples of sporting in frontal plane is?
Jumping jacks and star jumps
What movement is allowed in transverse plane?
Rotation
Example of sporting in transverse plane is ?
Pirouette
What movement is allowed in sagittal plane?
Up and down movements (flexion and extension)
Example of sporting in sagittal plane is?
Bicep curl and somersault
What movement is allowed in anteroposterior axis?
Sideways rotation
Sporting example of anteroposterior axis is?
Cartwheel
