Anatomical Names of the Muscles Flashcards
What is the agonist muscle responsible for?
Contracting and shortening to create movement at a joint
What is the antagonist muscle responsible for?
Relaxing and lengthening to create movement at a joint
What is an isometric contraction?
A muscle contraction which stays the same length whilst producing tension
What is an isotonic contraction?
A muscle contraction which changes length during its contraction
What are the two types of isotonic muscle contractions?
Eccentric and Concentric
What is a concentric (isotonic) muscle contraction?
When the muscle shortens while producing tension
What is an eccentric (isotonic) muscle contraction?
A muscle contraction which lengthens while producing tension
