Flexion
Decreases the angle between two body parts, pulling in. Ankle to butt.
Extension
Increases the angle between two body parts, pulling out.
Hyperextension
Excessive extension of a joint, injury.
Abduction
Away from the midline (abducting a child takes your arms away from your body and to the child)
Adduction
Adding arm back to the midline (Add)
Pronation
Nails up, palm facing down
Supination
Palm facing up (holding a bowl of sup, soup)
Dorsiflexion
Toe goes up
Plantarflexion
Toe goes down
Lateral rotation
Rotational movement away from the midline (what is lateral?) + rotation.
Medial rotation
Rotational movement towards the midline (what is medial?) + rotation.
Circumduction
Movement circularly
Protraction
Lower jaw pushes forward, underbite.
Retraction
Lower jaw is pushed back, pulled back (think of the word retract which means to come back, jaw comes back)
Inversion
Foot rolls inward, ankle rolling
