away from the side (toward the middle of your body)
Anterior
toward the font of the body
Posterior
toward the back (rear)
Superior
toward the top of the body
Inferior
toward the bottom of the body
Dorsal
along (or toward) the spinal surface of the body
Ventral
along (or toward) the belly button surface
Caudad (caudal)
toward the tail- referring to animal on 4 legs
Cephalad
toward the head- referring to animal on 4 legs
Proximal
toward the trunk (everything but arms & legs)
Distal
away from trunk
Visceral
toward an internal organ
Parietal
toward the wall- away from internal structures
Deep
toward the inside part- away from the surface
Superficial
toward to surface of a part- away from the inside
Medullary
refers to the inner region- or medulla
Cortical
refers to an outer region or cortex
