Toward tail end of patient
Dorsal (Body)
Towards top of back/spine
Ventral (Body)
Towards bottom of chest/abdomen
Rostral (Head)
Towards nose/muzzle
Caudal (Head)
Towards top of head/ near neck
Dorsal (Lower forelimb)
Towards front of lower forelimb (away from ground)
Proximal (limbs)
Towards body end of limb
Palmar (Lower forelimb)
Towards back of the lower forelimb (towards ground)
Distal (limbs)
Towards the toe/foot end of limb
Medial
Closer to midline of dog
Lateral
Further away from midline of dog
Transverse plane
Divides body/limb into cranial and caudal portions
Sagittal plane
Divides body from head to tail into 2: right and left (not always equal sides)
Median plane
Divides body from head to tail into 2 equal sides: right and left
