Anatomical Position
The body is erect, feet together, palms facing forward, upper limbs are at the sides with thumbs pointed away from the body.
Superior
Towards the head, higher in position
Inferior
Towards the feet, lower in position
Anterior (ventral)
Towards the front, location of any part in front of another
Posterior (dorsal)
Towards the back, location of any part in the back of another
Medial
Towards the midline
Lateral
Towards the side, away from the midline
Projection
A part extending beyond the level of its surroundings
Recession
The withdrawal of a part from its noral position
Depression
A hollow or concave region
Median line
Assumed vertical line, dividing it into left and right
Vertical
Parallel and lateral to the median line
Transverse
Horizontal; at right angles to the median line
Oblique
Direction describing an slant or inclination that is neither vertical or horizontal

Superficial
Area nearest to the outer surface of the skin
Deep
