Anat & Phys Flashcards
Anatomy
Study of the Structure of an Organism
Physiology
How an organism’s body functions
Characteristics of life
Movement, responsiveness, Growth, reproduction, respiration, Digestion, absorption, Circulation, assimilation, and excretion
Levels of organization
Cell, Tissue, Organ, System, organism
3 components of feedback loops
Stimulus, Control center, Response
Negative feedback loops
Prevents sudden changes (Most common loop) EX= body temp
Positive feedback loops
Increased actions/ short-lived EX= Birth and blood clotting
Superior & Inferior
Superior- Close to the top of the head
Inferior- Close to the bottom of the foot
Posterior & Anterior
Posterior- back side of the body
Anterior- front side of he body
Proximal & Distal
Proximal- attached to the end closest to the body
Distal- attached to the end further from the body
Lateral & Medial
Lateral- Away from mid-line
Medial- Center of the body
3 planes to divide the body
Saggital- Left and right sides
Transverse- (1/2) top and bottom
Coronal- Front and back
4 tissue types
Muscular, Connective, Nervous, and Epthielial
Functions of the 4 tissue types
Muscular- movement
Connective- supports
Nervous- Conducts impulses
Epithelial - Skin, pathways, and glands
