Analytical / Attention to Detail Questions Flashcards
Can you tell me about a time when you submitted a report or project with misspellings or grammatical errors?
There was one time in my freshman year when I submitted a paper for my English class with a careless spelling error. Due to the way the sentence was worded, it slipped past autocorrect. I didn’t realize the mistake until the paper was graded. Unfortunately, it cost me a few points in the spelling, grammar, and punctuation department. To ensure this didn’t happen again, I decided to listen to all the advertisements I’d been bombarded with and installed Grammarly. If you’re not aware, Grammarly is spell-checking software that not only checks for spelling mistakes but also gives sentence suggestions. This feature helped prevent mistakes like mine from slipping through. The free version is limited to only a few suggestions per day, so whenever I write an important paper, I work on it over the course of a few days. This approach has almost completely eliminated any spelling and grammar mistakes in my work.
What’s the most number of classes you ever took at once and how well did you do in each of them?
During my Junior year, I was taking six classes at once in an effort to graduate a year early. To manage this workload, I carefully analyzed which classes would be more challenging and which ones would require less time and effort. I prioritized completing assignments and work for the easier classes first, freeing up time to focus on the more demanding ones. For the more challenging, quantitative classes, I often sought tutoring and did extra practice. This strategy allowed me to concentrate on mastering the difficult material without the distraction of pending assignments from other classes. By effectively prioritizing my work, I secured an A in five out of those six classes. When my goals changed midway through the semester and I decided to delay my graduation, I dropped the sixth class and retook it for a better grade.
Have you ever worked on a project or report that was shown to a large number of people? [WORK IN PROGRESS - create the project]
During my junior year of high school, I discovered stock and currency trading. Initially, I traded using conventional methods involving trendlines, support and resistance, and candlestick patterns, but these methods didn’t work well for me. That’s when I started coding and creating my own indicators and algorithms. I used the TradingView platform to develop and publish many of the codes I created for the community to use. This process involved explaining how the indicators and algorithms worked and making them user-friendly. Publishing my work not only enhanced my understanding of algorithmic trading but also allowed me to contribute to the TradingView community. How well can you multi-task?
During my time at Year Up, there were several occasions where I had to juggle multiple tasks. I had data analysis tasks, project management assignments, and regular meetings and checkups to attend. It became challenging to track what I needed to do and where I needed to be. To manage everything, I utilized various tools, with Google Calendar being one of the most effective. I meticulously mapped out my day, noting each task and meeting, so I knew exactly what I needed to be doing and when. This approach allowed me to allocate my time efficiently and even submit some assignments ahead of schedule. I continued to use the app going forward as it benefitted me greatly.
